Never Take NO For An Answer ⛔
Here is a conversation between a creator and a brand:
Creator: Hi brand x! Recently I made this video for brand Y and I think this style will really match your target audience.
Brand: We love your video! We’d like it to collaborate in the future, but right now my employer is not letting me hire new UGC creators. Our campaign results have been a bit disappointing lately. Could you send me an email again in a few months?
Creator: Thanks! Oh it’s a shame that the results are not what you’d like them to be. I would love to share my ideas on how we can improve your results. Would you be able to do an online meeting so I can share my thoughts? Does Friday 3PM work for you?
In the meeting the creator asks about what the brand’s actual needs / goals are. And explained how he could help them reach their goals.
Guess who ended up with a long term partnership with brand x 😎
When we hear ‘No’, we tend to think it’s the end of the road. But take a step back, why do you ask questions?
Isn’t it to gain information?
‘No’ often gives you more information than ‘Yes’.
Work with that information and try to really find out what the brand really needs.
This Is Why Your UGC Sucks! 💩
Just kidding. But hey, I got your attention now 😉
With the creator economy growing very fast, it becomes more important to make your content stand out from the crowd.
Here is some mistakes I see a lot of creators make, and I am no exception 😅
It feels too much like an ad: If the video is all about the sale, your audience can tell. Get personal. What is the viewer gaining from your content?
Prioritizing the cinematography over the story: I see a lot of videos that are really high quality, but just lack storytelling. It’s nice to have high resolution content, but if your story doesn’t work, it will probably not grab attention. And you always see it back in the results. Storytelling might be the most powerful tool to grab attention. The world of tech and specs can be really overwhelming if you’re just starting out, leaving you with no time left for the most important part, the story. So focus on learning storytelling before you head into the cinematography rabbit hole.
Not reaching out to brands. Some creators think that brands will come to you. But that is actually quite rare. There are so many creators now, most brands only have to open their mailbox and pick the creators they want. So you need to be in that mailbox, and stand out! Especially in the beginning, UGC is a numbers game. The more outreach you do, the more deals you get. When you already had some paid deals, it becomes easy to come back to the brand. So especially when you’re starting out: The more emails you send, the sooner you’ll see success!
Do You Actually Need A Niche?
If you’re interested in building your personal brand (which I think, every UGC creator actually already is doing) listen to Mr. Koe on this one.
