the SECRET to great storytelling

Capture & Create Newsletter by Biokit

I remember the day that someone explained to me: “By telling stories we try make sense of our lives”

And when I look back, I see now that the people who had the most influence on me, were the ones who told the best stories. Today I still find myself most inspired by the stories that just grab me.

But what is the SECRET of great storytelling? 📖

We are being exposed to stories our entire life. And being a part-time content creator / teacher, I have already told countless stories. It’s such a magical feeling when you start telling a story, and you have your audience hooked from the start till the end. But it was only a few years back that I really got fascinated with the art of storytelling. Telling existing stories is fun, but it’s something else to create them yourself.

That’s why I explored the world of storytelling, by reading books about it, browsing internet, and of course, I watched countless YouTube videos on it.

This is what I discovered. 💡

Some stories have structures or formulas, but after a while I noticed that those are not the elements in stories that really grab us. Structures are techniques for storytelling, improving the retention and making it seem like the story has it’s own rhythm.

But the thing that really grabs us in stories are the people and their struggles within those structures. Because the characters in good stories represent something that we can relate to. Something that we’re all carrying or struggling with. We want to know how this character handles it, so we can learn from it and guide our own actions better. That’s what makes us want to know how a story ends.

But how you write a great story? ✍🏼

Your brain is like a muscle. It gets more powerful by repetition.

Do your sets and reps, and get stronger.

Train your writing/storytelling everyday, and you’ll get better.

That’s why I think it’s important, for any content creator, to write as much as possible.

My tip is to start a newsletter! Let me know if you do, I’ll definitely subscribe! 😉

Use your newsletter as the foundation for your content.

Integrate writing in your daily schedule.
First day will suck.
The second day will suck,
the third day maybe even more.
The fourth day will suck.
The fifth day will suck.
And it will probably keep sucking for a while.

But from the moment you’ll get used to it, it will be a way for you to relieve your stress and express your creativity. 🧠
